A little over a year ago, I was working on a project in Uganda. When I was staying somewhere with a television, I would catch the news on Al-Jazeera. I was really impressed with their news coverage and I became a pretty consistent viewer as a result. THere's a lot less of the sensationalistic celebrity crap that CNN and other news stations air.

WHen I came home to Michigan, I also saw a really nice segment on homelessness in Detroit that was done by Al-Jazeera.

As a result, I'm not surprised by this really good story at all and you're correct - US media could learn a lot.
