The Story Behind a Dad Picture

One of the things we’re doing as we wrap up post-production is to seek out unique photos on sites like Flickr for inclusion in the film. What’s really cool about doing this are the responses we sometimes get about the dads photographed. Below is such an email:

Dear Dana,

I’m really excited about your project. My dad is so awesome, but I don’t think he knows how much he means to me. He actually left my mom when I was about 10 years old, and I hated him for 7 years because of it. I finally grew up a little bit and decided to talk to him about it. I never should have waited to talk to him though. I found out that I had been mad at the wrong person. I never even gave my dad a chance to be there for me when I needed him most. I wish I could go back and change the way I acted, but I can’t. The photo you saw on my flickr is really my dad in a nutshell. He is the most hilarious man I have ever met, and he has loved me more than anyone else (even when I didn’t really love him back).

Sorry to go on about my dad like that. I guess I got carried away. I just think you should know a little bit about my dad if you’re going to use his picture.

Thanks,
Julia
