The Story Behind a Picture

One of the final things we are doing with completing the project is to include as many photos of dads and their kids as we can into the film. What’s really cool about this process is not just discovering the photos themselves but oftentimes learning a little bit about what is going on with the dad in them.
Pasted below is a letter I received recently from a woman talking about her dad in a photo she sent.

Dear Dana,

I’m really excited about your project. My dad is so awesome, but I don’t think he knows how much he means to me. He actually left my mom when I was about 10 years old, and I hated him for 7 years because of it. I finally grew up a little bit and decided to talk to him about it. I never should have waited to talk to him though. I found out that I had been mad at the wrong person. I never even gave my dad a chance to be there for me when I needed him most. I wish I could go back and change the way I acted, but I can’t. The photo you saw on my flickr is really my dad in a nutshell. He is the most hilarious man I have ever met, and he has loved me more than anyone else (even when I didn’t really love him back).

Sorry to go on about my dad like that. I guess I got carried away. I just think you should know a little bit about my dad if you’re going to use his picture.

Thanks,
Julia

We are so excited to be able to include a photo of Julia’s dad in the film – especially knowing how she feels about him. If you would like to have your own dad honored in the film, there is still a little more time to submit a photo of him or to include him in the ‘Dad’s Honor Roll’ in the end credits of the film. To learn more about doing these things, write to us at info@evolutionofdad.com. Thanks!
